Kirk MacDonald has been appointed as the new head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, marking his 12th time as a head coach for the team. Before stepping into coaching, MacDonald played professionally in the AHL from 2007 to 2013, accumulating 106 points in 272 regular-season games. He played for teams like the Albany River Rats, Providence Bruins, Iowa Chops, and Houston Aeros.

As head coach, MacDonald will lead the Penguins into the upcoming 2024-25 regular season.
