The Los Angeles Clippers have recently signed a new long-term contract with head coach Tyronn Lue, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the league. According to sources from ESPN and The Athletic, Lue’s new deal is worth approximately $70 million over five years.
Lue has been a valuable asset to the Clippers since joining the team in October 2020. In his four seasons as head coach, he has led the team to the NBA playoffs three times and posted an impressive record of 184-134 with a winning percentage of .579. In the 2023-24 season, the Clippers won the Pacific Division title with 51 wins.
Prior to his time with the Clippers, Lue had an impressive coaching career that began as an assistant with the Boston Celtics in 2011. He later became head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he won an NBA championship in 2016 with LeBron James. Lue’s coaching record currently stands at 312-217 with six playoff appearances.
With this new long-term contract in place, Lue can continue to lead the Clippers as they work to retain key players like Paul George and James Harden. While Kawhi Leonard is already signed for the next three seasons, George and Harden could become free agents this summer. With Lue at the helm, the Clippers are well positioned for continued success in the years to come.
