Chinese Steel Producer Zhongshou Special Steel Group has placed an order with Primetals Technologies for an Arvedi Esp line to be installed in their plant in Luanzhou, Hebei province. The entire range of mechanical components, as well as electrical and automation solutions, will be provided by Primetals Technologies’ locations in Austria, China, and Germany.
With Arvedi Esp technology officially certified for producing thin sheets with zero carbon emissions, it is the most energy-efficient process for creating high-quality hot rolled endless strip (eHRC). This green technology is the main reason why Zhongshou opted for the Arvedi Esp system in their transition from a conventional production path to one based on an electric arc furnace (EAF) and Arvedi ESP.
President Zheng Ting Wen stated that Zhongshou aims to lead in the production of green steel in both the domestic and international markets while competing on a level playing field based on Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations. The investment in the world’s twelfth ESP plant will enable them to achieve zero CO2 emissions in the casting and rolling phases.
The new plant will feature a long casting machine, four high reduction rolling benches, and five finishing rolling benches. It will be capable of producing thin sheets starting from a thickness of 130 millimeters, catering to both commodity markets and specific market niches requiring high strength low alloy steel (HSLA). The production line will facilitate full endless mode operation throughout the entire thickness range. Moreover, the plant integrates advanced electrical and automation systems, as well as cutting-edge automation software models to maintain tight dimensional tolerances and ensure exceptional product quality. Solutions like LevCon will enhance productivity by preventing casting speed slowdowns due to swelling effects.
