The Great American Eclipse of 2024 has come and gone, leaving Utah residents eagerly awaiting the next total eclipse in 2045. Unfortunately, that one will only be visible across Northern Utah. Annika Jensen from the Douglas Space and Science Foundation demonstrated the phenomenon of eclipses, describing them as super special celestial events that occur about twice a year around the world.
In Utah, the April 8 eclipse was partial, but for those lucky enough to be in the path of totality, the moon blocked almost all of the sun, creating a breathtaking sight. As you move away from the path of totality, the darkness lessens, but you can still witness some interesting effects. Annika shared a simple way to recreate the eclipse at home using a golf ball, globe, and flashlight, revealing the wonders of space to curious minds.
The Douglas Space and Science Foundation is dedicated to educating children about space through engaging demonstrations like the eclipse model. They still have spots available for their Summer Camps, where kids can explore the universe in a fun and interactive way. And for those interested in signing up
