DuBois Health Food Center, founded in 1964 by Phil DuBois, has reached its 60th year in business. The store’s first location was in the closet of his massage shop on Corbett Street. Over the years, the store has changed locations and expanded in size but has remained a family-owned business.
Justin Justus, grandson of the late Phil DuBois, took over operations of the store this year after Judy DuBois stepped down due to health issues. Four generations of the DuBois family were present at the store on its anniversary day, with Ofelia representing the latest generation.
The store offers a range of products such as vitamins, herbs, bulk grains, flours, homeopathic products, and supports local vendors. Justin shared some of the challenges that the store has faced recently like losing customers after moving locations and facing tougher distribution for products due to prioritization of large chain stores. However, he expressed confidence that their offerings compare favorably to larger stores like Sprouts.
DuBois Health Food Center is located at 1851 N. Carson St., and it is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., For more information about the store call (775) 882-2451.
