The BYD Seal 06 will be one of two models to receive the new hybrid technology from the Chinese EV maker. This new system allows a vehicle to travel over 1,000 miles without needing to stop to charge or refuel. BYD claims that their new hybrid powertrain system can enable cars to go up to 1,250 miles without refueling or charging, nearly double the range of some rival hybrids in the US.

This advancement in hybrid technology is a significant leap for the industry, as driving 1,250 miles without stopping to fill up is currently unheard of. The new hybrid powertrain system is expected to launch on two midsize sedans recently revealed by BYD. This increased range would translate to an equivalent of about 81 miles per gallon, which is more than three times the US fuel-economy average for model-year-2022 cars.

Hybrids have seen a surge in popularity as EVs continue to be expensive and largely unprofitable. Consumers are drawn to hybrids for their impressive fuel economies, lower up-front costs, and reduced range anxiety. Automakers like Toyota, Ford, and GM are all expanding their hybrid offerings in response to changing market demands.

BYD primarily sells hybrid models, making up the majority of their sales. Although hybrids are gaining popularity in the US, BYD cars are not yet available in the country. With advancements in hybrid technology and increasing demand for more fuel-efficient options, hybrids are becoming a crucial bridge between traditional internal-combustion engines and fully electric models.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in electric vehicles (EVs) as they become increasingly affordable and practical for everyday use. However, EVs still have some limitations when it comes to range and charging infrastructure.

To address these challenges, automakers have been exploring alternative solutions such as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) and hybrids that combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor.

The new hybrid powertrain system from BYD promises to deliver a significant improvement in driving range compared to traditional hybrids on offer today.

With this new technology on board two popular midsize sedans from BYD’s lineup, consumers can now look forward to longer trips without worrying about running out of juice or having to stop frequently at gas stations.
