Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently met with leaders of Chinese businesses in the railway and energy sectors to emphasize the importance of developing Vietnam’s railway industry. During the meeting, held on June 24, the Prime Minister requested support from Chinese companies in building railways, transferring technology, and training human resources to meet the country’s transportation infrastructure goals by 2030. These goals include 5,000 km of highways, urban railways, and high-speed railways connecting major seaports.

One of the companies that the Prime Minister met with was Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. (CRRC). The Prime Minister acknowledged that the current railway infrastructure in Vietnam has not been effectively utilized and expressed a new prioritization of railway investment. This move is aimed at providing affordable and efficient transportation options for the country. The Prime Minister encouraged Chinese businesses to support Vietnam in developing the railway industry, technology transfer, and human resource training.

In addition to CRRC, Vietnam has recently signed a Joint Declaration with China to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This includes plans to connect standard gauge railways across the border, which is crucial for enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. CRRC expressed its readiness to cooperate with Vietnam in manufacturing locomotives and carriages as well as developing high-speed railway projects.

Furthermore, during a separate meeting with China Power Construction Corporation (PowerChina), the Prime Minister praised their investments in Vietnam’s infrastructure and energy sectors. PowerChina expressed interest in participating in urban railway projects, hydropower projects, and renewable energy projects in Northern Vietnam. The Prime Minister encouraged PowerChina to collaborate with relevant ministries and local authorities to propose specific projects for government approval.

Overall, these discussions highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing Vietnam’s transportation and energy sectors.
