Port Director Jonathan Daniels predicted a significant uptick in the cruise ship industry after the halt of activity at the Port of Baltimore due to the Francis Scott Key Bridge tragedy. With over 440,000 passengers moving through the terminal last year, marking the highest number in over a decade, the cruise industry plays a vital role in Maryland’s economy, contributing over $63 million.

Diamondback Brewing Company, located near the port, is one such business that sees an increase in foot traffic from cruise guests looking for a place to eat and drink. The brewery creates its brews and food on-site and often hosts excursions for cruise guests. However, due to the bridge collapse, Diamondback had to cancel planned events with cruise companies.

As summer approaches and with regular two-way restriction-free traffic resuming smoothly after Unified Command crews worked tirelessly to fully reopen the channel, Diamondback hopes that their business will continue to be boosted by cruise traffic. The return of cruises is seen as a positive sign of economic recovery for local businesses like Diamondback Brewing Company and other establishments around the port.
