On Saturday, the Milwaukee Brewers announced that starting pitcher Jakob Junis has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement. The move is retroactive to Wednesday. In his place, left-hander Aaron Ashby has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville and will take Junis’ spot in the rotation. Ashby is expected to start on Monday in Cincinnati, according to Brewers manager Pat Murphy.

Junis first felt tightness in his right shoulder during his start on Tuesday in the Brewers’ home opener against Minnesota. The discomfort increased as the game went on, prompting Junis to speak up about the issue. Imaging tests revealed no structural damage, but the team decided to err on the side of caution and place him on the injured list.

Manager Pat Murphy stated that he believes Junis’ time on the injured list will be short and that the decision was a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, Ashby, who underwent left shoulder surgery last April, made one start at Triple-A Nashville this season, allowing three runs and four hits over five innings.

The Brewers are hoping for a quick recovery for Junis and are confident in Ashby’s ability to step in and contribute to the starting rotation in his absence.
