Sergey Beseda has been removed from his position as the head of the 5th service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSS), which is responsible for collecting information within Russia and in the countries of the former USSR. The news was reported by the “Настоящее Время” program of “Freedom”, citing the “Важные истории” periodical. Alexey Komov, the deputy head of the counter-intelligence service, has been appointed to replace Beseda.

According to sources, Beseda has been appointed as an adviser to the director of the FSB. The formal reason given for his dismissal is reaching the age of 70, as defined by law. However, it was revealed that there were other reasons for his removal from office. It was discovered that some information provided by Beseda’s team did not correspond to reality when Russian President Vladimir Putin made decisions regarding the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Russian “ВЧК-ОГПУ” Telegram channel, which is associated with the military, had reported a few days ago about Beseda’s impending dismissal. The channel noted that Beseda is accused of causing significant disruptions to the service’s activities in the Ukrainian direction. It also claimed that he had failed to fulfill certain tasks assigned by Putin and had even misled him on some occasions.
