In recent days, McDonald’s faced a major IT system outage that affected some of its restaurants worldwide. Customers reported difficulties purchasing food at locations in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Some restaurants were only accepting cash payments and orders were manually written down on paper.

While some customers managed to place orders through the McDonald’s app, they were unable to complete the transaction at the restaurant. The issue was not linked to a cyber attack but rather a system failure.

In response to the problem, McDonald’s apologized to customers on social media and assured them that they were actively working on resolving it. In Japan, they informed customers that it may take some time to fix the issue. In the UK, some restaurants reported being closed despite being able to place orders through the app.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s confirmed that the technology outage had been resolved in the UK and Ireland, expressing gratitude for customers’ patience and apologizing for any inconvenience caused. The incident prompted Burger King to mock their rival in response to the technology outage affecting their stores in Australia.
