As tensions escalate in the region, Israel launched a strike on Iran early Friday morning, a move anticipated by Western observers. The attack came in response to an Iranian assault on Israel on April 13, following an Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate. Tel Aviv had made it clear that a response was necessary after the Iranian attack.

After the April 13 attack, US President Joe Biden advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against an immediate response, cautioning against any offensive action against Iran. Biden suggested that Israel should consider their successful air defense and consider it a victory, as the damage from the Iranian strikes was minimal. However, not all of Netanyahu’s colleagues have agreed with this approach.

The Israeli war cabinet has been in discussions regarding the timing, scope, and location of a military response to Iran’s aggression. Some members of the Israeli government, who are more cautious or “doves,” have expressed concerns about the risks of engaging in all-out war with Iran. The decision on how to proceed in the conflict with Iran remains complex and uncertain.
