Huw Edwards, a well-known BBC presenter, has announced his resignation from the public broadcaster after serving for 40 years. The BBC reported this news, stating that the 62-year-old newsreader made the decision based on advice from his doctors. Edwards was a respected face of the broadcaster, often covering major events like the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II’s death on September 8, 2022.

The departure of Edwards comes after his wife revealed that he was admitted to the hospital with serious mental health issues last year following accusations of paying a minor for explicit photos. The BBC has accepted his resignation, allowing all parties to move forward. The broadcaster has chosen not to provide further comments on the matter.

Edwards presented the news at 10pm on the BBC for over twenty years before being suspended in July due to the allegations against him. Despite the police finding no evidence of criminal activity, Edwards decided to step down from his position at the BBC.
