Dr. Stevan Lahr from Family and Children’s Services recently spoke with News On 6 about the importance of reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, as it serves as a major barrier for individuals seeking help. According to Mental Health America, 350 million Americans are currently dealing with a mental illness, yet only 55 percent of adults are seeking treatment. This significant percentage not accessing treatment can be attributed to the stigma associated with mental health issues.

On June 4th, 2024 at 5:21 pm, Dr. Lahr emphasized the need to address the misconceptions and false beliefs that often hinder individuals from seeking mental health treatment. By educating the public and promoting open discussions about mental health, it is possible to break down these barriers and encourage more people to seek the help they need. Through increased awareness and understanding, we can work towards creating a society that supports and prioritizes mental health and wellness for all individuals.
