On Thursday, Glen Taylor announced that the deal to sell the Timberwolves and Lynx franchises to a group led by Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez had fallen through. According to Taylor, the deadline for Lore and Rodriguez to close the deal had passed, and the team was no longer up for sale. However, Lore and Rodriguez dispute Taylor’s claims in a conversation with KSTP Sports’ Darren Wolfson, stating that Taylor is experiencing “seller’s remorse” due to the increased valuation of the team during the sale process. They believe their contract with Taylor will be enforced in court, and they will still be granted majority ownership of the franchise.

Despite the failed deal, Lore and Rodriguez currently hold a 36-percent control of the teams through a portion of the ownership transfer agreement that has been completed. However, they claim to have been “locked out of the building,” being denied access to the Target Center owner’s suite and family room. Additionally, they have been prohibited from contacting president of basketball operations Tim Connelly or the Timberwolves coaching staff. Lore and Rodriguez are adamant that the terms of their original agreement with Taylor will be upheld, and they expect him to honor it.
