The Blue Flag program, managed by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Copenhagen, is a renowned award given to beaches, marinas, and tourism boats that meet strict criteria related to water quality, environmental standards, safety measures, and accessibility. This award signifies not only natural beauty but also a commitment to sustainability and exceptional amenities.

To receive a Blue Flag, municipalities typically apply for the award which is then evaluated by a National Jury. If approved at the national level, the application is sent to the International Jury for final evaluation and the awarding of the Blue Flag. The International Jury consists of experts from various organizations, ensuring a rigorous and impartial process.
