The Israeli government has presented a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas in the ongoing conflict with Gaza, which includes the release of all hostages held by the Palestinian Islamic group. US President Joe Biden made the announcement following diplomatic engagements with Israel, Qatar, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern countries.

Biden emphasized that Israel’s proposed plan involves three phases, with the first phase focusing on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli troops, and a hostage exchange. During the initial six-week phase, negotiations between Israel and Hamas are expected to pave the way for a permanent cessation of hostilities, release of remaining hostages, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

The final phase involves a major reconstruction plan for the Palestinian enclave and the return of the bodies of murdered hostages. Biden highlighted that this proposed plan is necessary for achieving lasting peace in the region.

According to sources within Hamas, they have been closely consulted during negotiations and have expressed their support for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. They have also reiterated their demands for a truce that includes a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, hostage-prisoner exchange, and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. The group’s stance has remained consistent throughout negotiations.

Israel’s government believes that this proposed truce aligns with its military objectives but remains committed to neutralizing Hamas’ ability to govern in Gaza. The Prime Minister’s office has affirmed its commitment to achieving these objectives while ensuring safe returns for all hostages held by both sides.
