As a result of their significant progress in promoting diversity, inclusion, and degree attainment outcomes within their engineering and engineering technology programs, the Batten College of Engineering and Technology has achieved Bronze-level status in the American Society for Engineering Education’s (ASEE) Diversity Recognition Program. In order to be considered for this program, colleges must develop a comprehensive diversity plan that outlines their commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and equity. This plan must also address needs assessment, goal setting, implicit bias training, and accountability measures. Utilizing surveys to assess the effectiveness of these initiatives is also key.
Stacie Ringleb, the associate dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access at the College, explained that their efforts have been aligned with the Batten College’s Strategic Plan and Old Dominion University’s Monarch Plan for Inclusive Excellence. The College is proud to have been recognized by the ASEE for their dedication to these initiatives.
As part of this recognition, the Batten College will be permitted to display a special badge on their marketing materials and website for a period of three years.
