In a statement shared on social media last Friday, Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders revealed that he recently had a heart-related health scare. Despite not going into detail about his condition, Sanders emphasized the importance of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we feel fine. He expressed gratitude for the healthcare professionals who treated him and mentioned that he is prioritizing his health based on doctor recommendations.

Sanders played for the Detroit Lions from 1989-1998 before retiring at age 31. The team also posted a message on social media wishing him a speedy recovery. Known as one of the most electrifying players in NFL history, Sanders was a six-time All-Pro and is ranked fourth on the league’s career rushing list with 15,269 yards accumulated over ten seasons. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004.

Sanders was drafted by the Lions as the third overall pick in the 1989 NFL draft after winning the Heisman Trophy during his collegiate career at Oklahoma State. Last season, the Lions honored Sanders by unveiling a statue outside Ford Field, marking the first time a player from the franchise received such recognition.
