Carson Wentz has signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Jordan Schultz of the Bleacher Report. He will serve as the backup quarterback to Patrick Mahomes, with Chris Oladokun and Ian Book being the other quarterbacks on the roster. Wentz, who is 31 years old, played for the Los Angeles Rams last season, appearing in two games with one start. During that time, he completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 163 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception.

This will be Wentz’s fifth team in five years, as he has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders and Rams before joining the Chiefs. Drafted as the second overall pick by the Eagles in 2016, Wentz played five seasons with the team before moving on to different organizations.

Since becoming the full-time starter in 2018, Mahomes has only missed four starts for the Chiefs. Wentz’s addition provides the team with a reliable backup option should Mahomes ever be unavailable.
