The Central Shenandoah Health District is urging parents to make sure their children are fully vaccinated before the new school year starts. Rachel Dumene, a communications specialist for the district, emphasized the importance of scheduling vaccination appointments earlier in the summer to avoid any issues with starting school on time.

To schedule a vaccination appointment for your child, you can contact your local health department. Dumene highlighted that there are specific appointments set aside for school-aged children at local health departments and stressed the importance of getting back-to-school immunizations done before the start of the school year. She also reminded parents that appointments can fill up quickly, so it’s important to book one as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

It’s worth noting that vaccinations are scheduled by appointment only and after-hour appointments are available until 5:30 p.m. to accommodate parents who work during regular business hours. Parents should take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their children are protected from preventable diseases before they start school.
