In preparation for the upcoming school year, parents and guardians are reminded to schedule their child for the required health examinations and immunizations. It is mandatory for all students to have regular physical health exams as mandated by New York State, especially if they will be entering specific grades in September 2024 such as Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, First, Third, Fifth, Ninth, and 11th grades.

If your child falls into one of these mentioned grades this September, please make an appointment with their healthcare provider to complete the required health examination form. Students who participate in sports or require working papers may also need a health exam annually based on the recommendation of the Committee on Special Education or the Committee on Preschool Special Education.

In addition to health exams, students must also receive certain immunizations before attending school. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s healthcare provider to schedule the necessary vaccinations. Vaccinations can also be obtained through the Albany County Health Department or Whitney Young Health with the appropriate appointments.

For students who require medications during the school day, families must provide a written order from a health provider and written permission from a parent or guardian. All medications must be brought to school by an adult and in its original labeled packaging. Families should also provide the school nurse with any necessary supplies or special equipment needed to administer the medication.

It is crucial to ensure that your child’s health needs are met in preparation for the upcoming school year. If you have any questions or require further information, please reach out to your child’s school nurse for assistance.
