Averted Disaster: US Navy Saves Crew from Iranian-Backed Houthi Attack in the Gulf of Aden

On April 24, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists launched an anti-ship ballistic missile towards an American ship and warship. The attack was fortunately thwarted with no damages or casualties. The missile was believed to be aimed at the US-flagged MV Yorktown, which had 18 American and four Greek crew members on board. In addition to the missile, the military also successfully destroyed four drones that the Houthis had launched at the American destroyer.

According to Centcom, these weapons posed an imminent threat to merchant and US Navy vessels, prompting action to be taken in order to protect navigation freedom and enhance safety in international waters for the US Navy and merchant vessels. This incident marked the first Houthi attack since April 14 when Yemeni militants were involved in a significant attack on Israel orchestrated by Iran.
