Armand Duplantis broke his own world record with a jump of 6.24 meters in the first Diamond League meeting of the 2024 season, marking his eighth time to do so. The Swedish athlete easily cleared the bar and celebrated with a leap off the sponge mat. With this impressive feat, he has solidified his status as one of the best pole vaulters in the world.

Duplantis, who is just 24 years old, has already won two world outdoor championships and a world indoor title. He is now gearing up for the Paris Olympics later this year, where he is considered a strong favorite to win another gold medal. His recent performance only further solidifies his place at the top of the sport.

In addition to Duplantis’ incredible achievement, there were also some impressive performances by women at the competition. Torrie Lewis made her Diamond League debut by winning gold in the 200m with a time of 22.96 seconds, narrowly beating out top American athletes like Sha’Carri Richardson and Amber Finney-Taylor. Richardson finished second in 22.99 seconds, while Finney-Taylor came in third with a time of 23.11 seconds.

Meanwhile, Marileidy Paulino of Dominican Republic claimed victory in the women’s 400m race with a time of 50.08 seconds, leading a competitive field that included athletes from Poland and the United States. And Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico dominated the women’s 100m hurdles event, cruising to a first-place finish in just 12.45 seconds.

Overall, it was an impressive showing by all athletes at this first Diamond League meeting of the season and we can expect more great performances throughout their respective seasons.
