Danbury-based ARKA Group has recently announced an $85 million investment in a 14,000 square foot expansion that brings their total footprint to 550,000 square feet. The expansion is dedicated to the development and production of high-tech devices for the space and defense industries.

On April 9, the ARKA Group completed the expansion, which includes additional cleanroom space for manufacturing, calibrating, and installing electro-optical and infrared telescopes for “smallsats,” which are satellites less than a meter across. This expansion supports ARKA’s increased production of sub-meter telescopes and payloads, which are crucial for maintaining security by keeping a close eye on the sky.

The upgrades made through this expansion will enable multi-shift work to meet high volume orders. Charlie Schaub, senior vice president of ARKA’s Space & Defense business, explained that this expansion supports their capabilities in both smallsat payloads and large optics for ground- and space-based scientific and national security missions.

The enhancements made through this expansion will strengthen ARKA’s position as a leading provider of advanced technology solutions for space and defense applications. US Reps Jim Himes and Jahana Hayes, along with Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves, recently visited the facility to pose with an ARKA smallsat telescope. The group praised ARKA’s commitment to innovation and their contributions to national security efforts.
