Apple is set to unveil major upgrades to its virtual assistant, Siri, at the annual developers event WWDC 2024. The company has announced that it will use advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide users with the ability to control functions in integrated applications through voice commands. Some of the new features include Siri summarizing news articles, transcribing voice memos and enhancing app suggestions.

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple plans to revamp Siri and enable users to control integrated app functions by using large language models (LLM). This will allow Siri to analyze user interactions within apps and automatically enable specific functions through voice commands. Initially, the upgraded Siri will support a single command for each action but eventually users will be able to chain together multiple requests. For example, a user could ask Siri to summarize a recorded meeting and send it to another person with just one command.

These advanced AI capabilities are expected roll out on Apple’s own services, supporting hundreds of different commands next year. According to Gurman, this broader functionality represents Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience and making Siri more integrated and intelligent.
