Kara Kohler has secured her place in the third Olympics by winning the single sculls at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sarasota, Florida. She is one of five rowers chosen to represent Team USA on Sunday. Kohler, who previously won quadruple sculls bronze at the 2012 London Games, took an easy victory in Sunday’s single sculls final. This will mark her second consecutive appearance in the Olympics in this event. In the previous Tokyo Games, she placed ninth in the single sculls and was fourth at the 2023 World Championships.
In addition to Kohler’s victory, Jessica Thoennes and Azja Czajkowski won the women’s pair, while Oliver Bub and William Bender won the men’s pair, securing a spot on the Olympic team. Thoennes, who came in fourth in the eight at the Tokyo Olympics, also earned a silver medal in the 2023 World Championships. These rowers are set to compete in a final Olympic and Paralympic qualifier in Switzerland in May, where they can earn their berths in Paris by competing against international competition.
Last month, Meghan Musnicki was named as one of the first 21 members of Team USA for Paris 2024 . She will become the oldest U.S woman to row at an Olympics as she is part of women’s eight boat that still needs to earn its Olympic spot at final international qualifier
