Aldi, the German grocery giant, is set to open its first store in Allegheny Township’s Hyde Park Plaza in the last quarter of 2024. This news was confirmed by Jeff Paul, owner of the plaza, who has been actively working to attract new businesses to the township since he acquired the property in September 2022. The store will be part of Aldi’s expansion efforts, with a goal of adding 800 new stores by the end of 2028.

Currently, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket operating in Allegheny Township. However, this will change as Aldi prepares to enter the market. Morabito, a resident and township supervisor, has been working tirelessly to attract new businesses to the township since joining the board in January 2022. As a result, around a dozen new stores and restaurants have opened their doors in Allegheny Township.

To secure Aldi’s interest in opening its store in Hyde Park Plaza, Morabito provided extensive traffic and demographic data on the township’s population of just over 8,000 residents. Despite this small number, Morabito was able to convince Aldi that Allegheny Township had potential as a business-friendly location. With larger anchors like Aldi coming on board, vacancy rates are expected to continue declining in Allegheny Township’s plazas.
