On Tuesday, a much-loved K-9 from the York County Sheriff’s Office passed away due to complications related to cancer. Gabby, the revered K-9, was honored by her teammates before being transported to the veterinarian. Sheriff Kevin Tolson stated how heartbroken the law enforcement community and York County residents are over this loss, noting that Gabby was a one-of-a-kind K-9 that would be challenging to replace.

Gabby had an illustrious career, with over 300 captures of suspects and locating numerous missing individuals. In 2018, she became the first dog to receive the YCSO Medal of Valor for her bravery during a shooting incident. Her handler, Sgt. Randy Clinton, described Gabby as an exceptional K-9 who always excelled in her duties. Despite her passing, Gabby’s contributions to the safety of York County citizens will never be forgotten.

At ten and a half years old, Gabby served as a tracking bloodhound for nine years and also nurtured a litter of puppies who now serve with various agencies throughout the Carolinas. Sgt. Chris Kinsey emphasized that Gabby’s legacy will live on through her offspring’s work. The impact Gabby had during her career will be felt for years to come, serving as a testament to her dedication and service to the community.
