President Joe Biden took a jab at former President Donald Trump on Tuesday for his involvement in overturning abortion rights. Biden criticized Trump for describing the Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case, which overturned Roe v. Wade, as a “miracle” and speculated that it might be related to the Bible Trump was selling.

Trump had been selling a $60 “God Bless the USA Bible” with country singer Lee Greenwood, prompting Biden to joke that he almost wanted to buy one just to see what was inside. The Bible includes the text of the Bible, the lyrics to Greenwood’s song “God Bless the USA,” and other patriotic texts. However, it has received poor reviews and complaints about sticky pages.

Biden highlighted Trump’s pride in overturning Roe v. Wade and how he made a deal with evangelical voters to appoint Supreme Court justices who would support this decision. This strategy paid off as Trump-appointed justices now hold a conservative majority on the Court, leading to abortion bans in multiple states.

Trump had previously advocated for punishing women who get abortions, but later shifted his stance to punishing doctors instead. Biden pointed out Trump’s history of taking credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and his controversial statements regarding reproductive rights. As Biden campaigned in Florida, Democrats hoped to mobilize voter anger over abortion restrictions to potentially flip the state in the upcoming election.

The exchange between Biden and the crowd at the campaign event highlighted the ongoing debate over abortion rights and the role of religion in politics. The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has raised concerns about reproductive freedom and access to healthcare for millions of women across America
