The St. Michael-Albertville robotics team recently made history by securing a fifth-place finish at the World Championship held in Houston, Texas. The team of 38 students faced off against 600 other teams from around the world and showcased their skills in building robots that could complete specific tasks under time constraints. Over 50,000 people from more than 50 countries attended the event, making it a highly competitive and prestigious competition.
Despite facing tough competition, the St. Michael-Albertville team emerged victorious by finishing fifth overall and becoming the champions of the “Curie” division, besting the other 70 teams in their category. Upon their return, they were greeted by classmates, teachers, and parents who congratulated them on their remarkable achievement.
Superintendent Ann-Marie Foucault expressed her gratitude to the coaches, mentors, and students for representing STMA with pride and excellence. Team member Sydney Gasser described the experience as “crazy” and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the world. Coach Zack Osowski praised the team for achieving their goal of making it to the playoffs and surpassing expectations by upsetting the number one alliance in the competition.
