On Monday, Meta announced that they will temporarily close their platform Threads in Turkey as of April 29. The move comes in response to an order from the competition authority which prohibits the exchange of data between Threads and Instagram. Meta expressed disagreement with the provisional order and stated that they believe they are in compliance with all Turkish legal requirements. The company plans to appeal the decision.

Meta assured that their other platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, will continue to operate as usual. The company emphasized that the temporary closure is specific to Threads only and will not affect the availability of Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp in the country. Meta remains committed to providing their services in compliance with local regulations.

The closure of Threads in Turkey is a significant development for Meta and its users in the country. The decision will impact thousands of people who use Threads daily for communication and sharing content. However, Meta has promised to continue serving its users on its other platforms while it appeals the decision made by the Turkish competition regulator.
