After a successful 2 1/2-decade run as the host of ESPN’s flagship show “SportsCenter,” John Anderson has announced his retirement. In an announcement on his own show “Inside Wisconsin,” Anderson revealed that he will be stepping down from “SportsCenter” when his contract expires in June. However, he is not planning to leave ESPN entirely, as he intends to continue working on various projects for the network.

Anderson cited changes in the operation of “SportsCenter” as a factor in his decision to retire. He explained that while he still enjoys the job and wants to do it well, he may not have the stamina for another 26 or 27 years of hosting the show. Despite this, Anderson expressed excitement about continuing to cover track and field events like the Boston Marathon and New York Marathon for ESPN, and other sports-related projects in the future.

John Anderson first joined ESPN in 1999 after working for KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Arizona. Over the years, he has become a prominent figure on the network and is known for his snappy and knowledgeable dialogue. With this retirement announcement, Anderson joins a long line of hosts who have left “SportsCenter” over time, including Neil Everett and Sage Steele.
