In the United States, the Amish community was left in shock after a brutal murder occurred in Pennsylvania. Rebekah Byler, a 23-year-old pregnant woman, was found dead in her home in Spartansburg on February 26, 2024. Her husband, Andy Byler, discovered her body with a gunshot wound to the head. Unfortunately, their unborn child also did not survive, but their two other children, aged 2 and 3, were unharmed.

After several days of investigation, the police arrested Shawn Cranston, a 52-year-old trucker, as a suspect in the murder. Several pieces of evidence pointed to him as the perpetrator. The victim’s husband had seen a suspicious man in their garden days before the murder, described as bald with a white beard and driving a red car similar to Cranston’s wife’s Jeep. In addition, the victim’s son witnessed the murder and mentioned seeing a man wearing sneakers that matched the shoe prints found at the crime scene that belonged to Cranston.

Further evidence implicated Cranston in the crime. Videos placed him near the crime scene on the day of the murder and items from the Amish home were discovered in his possession when he was arrested. Although DNA evidence is still being analyzed, police found disposable rubber gloves in Cranston’s home. When he was arrested firearms were confiscated but not including murder weapon . Cranston who is part of rocker gang is currently in custody and awaiting trial.

With around 385 thousand members today most of them originating from southern Germany they reject modern conveniences like electricity and cars instead preferring horse drawn carriages as mode of transportation . Their clothing and customs remain rooted in their commitment to living a traditional life focused on faith and humility
