The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas SUV, which was recently showcased at the Chicago Auto Show in Illinois, has been recalled due to issues with its passenger-side airbags. This recall affects a total of 271,330 Atlas SUV vehicles, and it is due to a wiring error that prevents the front passenger airbags from deploying when needed. The problem impacts certain Atlas vehicles made between 2021 and 2024 and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles made between 2020 and 2024.

In March, Volkswagen had previously recalled 143,000 Atlas SUVs for a similar airbag issue. It is unclear whether this most recent report includes the March recall. The company has not yet provided clarification on this matter. The car’s seat heaters were identified as having a contact fault with the weight sensors, causing the passenger airbag to be switched off even if the seat is occupied. Drivers are alerted to this issue through a warning light and sound on the car’s instrument panel.

Affected vehicle owners will be notified by mail on August 16 about the recall. Volkswagen dealers will replace the faulty parts free of charge once the necessary parts are available. This action is being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of Atlas SUV owners and passengers.
