Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has set a goal to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) using the significant GPU resources from Nvidia that he has obtained. He has repositioned his FAIR research group to focus on creating generative AI products for his social media platforms. The ultimate aim is to have a total of 600,000 Nvidia GPUs for AI work at Meta by the end of 2024, making it possibly the largest-scale project of its kind within an individual company.

Zuckerberg recently introduced the latest version of his open-source AI, LLaMA 3, which he believes is more advanced than other options available. This new AI will not pose a threat to humanity’s existence, according to Zuckerberg, who is confident that AI in its current developmental stage will not cause any existential issues. Despite AI becoming a crucial tool in many industries, there are concerns about certain aspects such as multimodal AI that can create videos or images, raising questions about their impact, especially during an election year.

In addition to this development, Meta CEO Zuckerberg hinted at the development of consumer neural interfaces that can interpret brain signals to control computers. These non-invasive wearables could become a consumer product within a few years and would use electromyography (EMG) to translate brain signals into commands for controlling devices. Unlike Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain chip, these devices would not be invasive and would be an alternative for consumers looking for a non-invasive way to interact with technology.

Regarding academic work, there is ongoing debate and discussion within various online communities about whether it is ethical to seek professional help with writing a Master’s thesis. Some question the implications of using a ghostwriter while others see it as legitimate support. Ultimately, the decision to seek help with writing a Master’s thesis depends on individual circumstances and considerations of academic integrity.

Overall, Zuckerberg’s focus on developing AGI and consumer neural interfaces shows how technology continues to evolve and change our lives in new ways. As we move forward into an increasingly digital future, it will be important to continue exploring these topics and ensuring that they are developed in ways that benefit society as a whole.
