Denver has acquired Zach Wilson, the Jets’ No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft, in a trade. The Broncos will give up a sixth-round pick, No. 203, and a seventh-round pick, No. 256, to the Jets in exchange for Wilson. Additionally, the Jets will pay some of Wilson’s salary as he is set to make $5.5 million in 2024.

Wilson, who is 24 years old, had been granted permission to seek a trade by the Jets and was not attending their offseason program. Despite the Jets trading for Aaron Rodgers last offseason, Wilson still started 11 games for the club last season after Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles just four offensive snaps into the season. Wilson completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 2,271 yards, with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Over the last three seasons, Wilson has played in 34 games with 33 starts, completing 57 percent of his passes for 6,293 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. In Denver, Wilson will join a quarterbacks room that includes Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci. The Broncos also hold the No. 12 overall pick in this week’s draft and could potentially add another quarterback to their roster.

The move comes after Wilson expressed his desire to leave New York and play for a team that would give him more opportunities to succeed as a quarterback. The trade marks the end of an era for the Jets as they continue to rebuild their roster under new head coach Robert Saleh.
