In recent news, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads, announced that they will begin using data from their social networks to train their artificial intelligence (AI) starting June 26. While this practice may seem concerning to some users who are concerned about privacy and data protection, it is not uncommon for companies to use user data for various purposes.

One such purpose is training AI algorithms. However, account holders of these social networks have the option to deny permission for their information to be used in this way. The process to do so is straightforward and requires users to fill out a form detailing their country and email address and providing a reason for not wanting their information used. After completing the form, users will receive an email with a code that needs to be entered into the app to finalize the request.

It’s worth noting that Meta does not use the content of private messages between friends and family members to train their AI algorithms. If a user’s request is accepted, it will apply from that moment onwards. While this process may seem daunting with multiple fields to fill out, it provides users with the option to control how their data is used by these social network platforms.

Overall, while there may be concerns about how user data is being used by these social network platforms, it’s important for users to understand their rights and take advantage of any options they have available to them.
