In recent news, Ajax has announced that Georges Mikautadze, who had a remarkable performance at EURO 2024, has permanently left the club. During the tournament, he was the only player to score in all three of his country’s group games before Georgia was eliminated by Spain in the last 16. Mikautadze, who is just 23 years old, joined Ajax last summer in a reported €16m deal from Metz. However, after six months in Amsterdam, he returned to Metz due to his disappointing performance.
The deal between Ajax and Metz included an option to make Mikautadze’s move permanent for an apparent €10m. Despite his efforts not being enough to prevent Metz from being relegated, they have chosen to exercise that purchase clause. It has been confirmed that Mikautadze will not remain in Ligue 2 as talks have advanced for him to be sold quickly in order to make a profit.
It is expected that Monaco will finalize a move to acquire Mikautadze shortly. The forward’s departure from Ajax marks the end of his time with the club and the beginning of a new chapter in his career with a potential move to Monaco on the horizon.
