In Longwood, the annual Police Athletic League science fair welcomed students from all five boroughs to showcase their knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and math. The event took place at the PAL center, where young minds eagerly displayed their projects focused on natural disasters.
The center was buzzing with excitement as students unveiled their projects, with some resembling bridges, highways, and armories. The young engineers, ranging from fifth to eighth grade, were tasked with creating structures that could withstand disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires and more for at least 20 seconds.
The competition was fierce as students presented their innovative creations to judges and spectators. Some of the projects were so impressive that they could have been mistaken for real-life structures. The first-place winner of the science fair would receive $500 to fund a STEM project at their PAL center, providing them with an opportunity to further explore their passion for science and technology.
