Wrexham have made a new signing by acquiring Leicester City defender Lewis Brunt for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the Stok Racecourse after spending last season on loan at Mansfield Town. Brunt played 40 games in the 2023-24 season as the Stags were promoted from League Two alongside Wrexham.

Brunt expressed his excitement about the deal, stating, “I’m over the moon to get the deal signed and over the line and I can’t wait to get going.” He also mentioned his knowledge of Wrexham’s rich history and ambitious goals for the future, making joining the club a great feeling for him. Brunt began his career in Aston Villa’s academy before moving to Leicester in 2021, where he made four appearances.

Mansfield boss Nigel Clough had previously revealed that an offer for Brunt from Leicester had been rejected, indicating the defender was a top target for the club. However, now that Brunt has joined Wrexham, Clough is likely disappointed but understanding of his former player’s decision.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson praised Brunt as “a very good young player,” highlighting his impressive performance at Mansfield last season and his potential for development. Brunt is seen as a valuable addition to the team and will bring much needed strength to Wrexham’s defensive lineup as they look to continue their upward trajectory in the coming season.
