The Tri-County Urban League hosted the “You Da Man” Men’s Mental Health Exposition in Peoria on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event aimed to provide a safe space for men to discuss their mental health and featured activities such as a panel discussion, a barber showcase, fitness training, raffles, giveaways, and more. Over a dozen local young boys and men attended the event, which also included resource vendors from organizations like Jolt Harm Reduction and GRO Community.

Event organizer Mariama Ford highlighted the importance of creating a safe environment for men to address their mental health in a society that often stigmatizes men expressing their emotions. She emphasized the challenges men face in seeking help for mental health issues and emphasized the need for open conversations and support from peers who understand their experiences. One memorable aspect of the event was the giveaway of over 100 roses to the men in attendance, symbolizing love, compassion, and support for those who may be struggling with their mental well-being. The event has become an important platform for raising awareness about men’s mental health and promoting positive conversations around the topic.
