The WPIAL offices will be buzzing with activity in the coming days as they prepare for spring bracketology for softball, boys and girls lacrosse playoffs. On Thursday, steering committees will gather to finalize the brackets for the district softball playoffs and lacrosse tournaments. The WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show will air at 2 p.m. Thursday on Trib HSSN, providing an in-depth analysis of the softball playoff brackets.
As for the WPIAL Class 3A playoff field, it’s almost set with only a few possible additions remaining depending on the final night of the regular season. In Section 1-3A, Upper St. Clair has secured a playoff spot, but if they lose and Bethel Park manages to upset Canon-McMillan, both teams could earn postseason berths. In Section 2-2A, Derry has a chance to tie for second place and clinch a playoff spot with a win on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in boys volleyball, several WPIAL teams are vying for section titles with wins on Thursday. North Allegheny and Shaler are currently tied for first place in Section 2-3A, while Penn-Trafford can secure an outright section win with a victory. North Catholic and South Fayette also have the opportunity to share the title in their respective sections with wins on Thursday.
