On August 22, 2024, World Sailing announced the extension of the suspensions of individuals from the World Sailing Council and other bodies. The decision was made following a review of the situation that took place on May 15, 2024.

The initial suspensions were put in place at the request of the International Olympic Committee in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during the Olympic Truce of the 2022 Olympic Games. This led to the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from World Sailing competitions and events.

During their meeting on May 16, 2024, the Board reviewed the situation and found that there had been no significant changes that warranted lifting the suspensions. The World Sailing Council also supported this decision during their meeting on May 16, 2024.

As a result, the suspensions will remain in effect until at least August 22, 2024, when the next review is scheduled to take place. World Sailing continues to monitor the situation and uphold its stance regarding the Ukraine crisis. These measures are put in place to maintain the integrity and values of the sport.
