World Central Kitchen, a humanitarian aid organization, has resumed its operations in Gaza after a nearly month-long pause due to the deaths of staff members. The organization announced that it would be moving its community kitchens further north in the Gaza Strip from Rafah, where it had temporarily halted operations because of ongoing attacks by Israel’s military.

The decision to resume operations comes as Israel faces mounting international pressure to avoid escalating its assault on Rafah. A recent Israeli airstrike near the southernmost city of Gaza killed at least 45 people in a tent camp. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the incident as a “tragic accident,” witnesses and survivors reported that many of those killed were seeking shelter in a designated safe zone and died in a fire sparked by the strike.

Despite the challenges, World Central Kitchen was able to provide almost 100,000 meals to displaced Palestinians on Tuesday. The organization highlighted the dire situation in Gaza and expressed its commitment to increasing aid delivery. In late April, the organization resumed distributing food in Gaza after the deaths of seven aid workers in an Israeli air strike. The decision to resume aid distribution was driven by the need to continue providing essential support to those in need.

The Biden administration recently reiterated its support for Israel, emphasizing that the recent operation in Gaza did not constitute a major ground incursion crossing any U.S. red lines. However, CNN analysis revealed that U.S.-made munitions were used in the Israeli airstrike that resulted in numerous casualties
