Jaismine Lamboria had a successful day in Bangkok, defeating Mahsati Hamzayeva of Azerbaijan 5-0 in the women’s 57kg category bout to advance to the pre-quarterfinals. Following her victory, Commonwealth Games champion Amit Panghal also secured a win for the Indian contingent with a 4-1 victory over Mexico’s Mauricio Ruiz in the round of 32.

However, India still has work to do to secure more Olympic boxing quotas for Paris 2024. In the men’s 57kg category, only three boxers will secure Paris Olympic quotas from the Bangkok meet. This means that boxer Siwach will need to win two more bouts in order to secure one of these coveted spots. Similarly, Sanjeet, who received a bye in the round of 64, will also need to aim for the semi-finals to secure a quota from the division.

Fortunately, there are still quotas available at the ongoing competition in Bangkok. At the second World Olympic Qualifier in Thailand, seven Indian men and three women are competing to secure more quotas. Quotas are available in various weight categories, with three up for grabs in women’s 60kg, men’s 57kg, and men’s 80kg divisions, and five each in men’s 63.5kg and 71kg divisions.
