Emma Raducanu, the former US Open champion, has been awarded a wildcard for the upcoming 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Despite not being part of the Team GB tennis squad at the Paris Games, Raducanu has shown promise for her grass court season after reaching the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open before being knocked out by fellow British player Katie Boulter.

Raducanu’s recent career has been impacted by wrist and ankle surgeries, leading her to decline a wildcard for the summer Olympics. However, she has climbed up the rankings to 165th in the world after her successful Nottingham Open run. Naomi Osaka, who recently returned to tennis after having a baby, has also been awarded a wildcard for Wimbledon.

In the women’s draw at Wimbledon, four British players were awarded wildcards including Raducanu, Francesca Jones, Heather Watson, and Yuriko Lily Miyazaki. On the men’s side, Liam Broady, Jan Choinski, Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Billy Harris, Paul Jubb and Henry Searle have been awarded wildcards with one spot yet to be announced. Caroline Wozniaki and Angelique Kerber were also granted entry to the women’s draw.

The prestigious tournament is set to be an exciting lineup with talented players from around the world competing in various categories.
