William Carey University is heading to Lewiston, Idaho for the second year in a row after defeating Milligan (Tenn.) 11-4 in the NAIA Opening Round. This marks the 15th-ranked Crusaders’ third trip to the World Series under head coach Bobby Halford, who has been with the team for 39 seasons. The team is determined to follow in the footsteps of the 1969 national championship-winning team and play at a high level on the national stage.

The Crusaders pulled away from Milligan with an impressive 8-run seventh inning in the championship game at Milton Wheeler Field. Senior Preston Ratliff played a key role, both hitting two RBIs on two hits and securing his second win on the mound. The team is currently on an impressive 11-game winning streak and is focused on going even further in the World Series this time around.

Players like outfielder Billy Garrity and infielder Jake Lycette are confident in their team’s ability to succeed in Lewiston, with the ultimate goal being to win the tournament. They understand that there will be challenges ahead but are well-prepared to compete at the highest level. The 10-team tournament will take place from May 24-31, and William Carey is determined to make a strong showing.
