Wild Thang, aka the ‘world’s ugliest dog’, stole the hearts of judges and fans alike at the annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California. Despite competing five times without ever winning, Fiona Ma, one of the judges, felt that the pup deserved to finally take home the title.

The competition, held on June 21, 2024, aimed to raise awareness about animal rescue and adoption. Wild Thang and his owner, Ann Lewis, were crowned the winners and received a prize of $5,000. They will also be featured on NBC’s The Today Show, gaining even more recognition for their unique story.

In second place was Rome, a wheelchair-bound pug who captured the hearts of the audience with his resilience and charm. Daisy May, a mixed breed rescue dog, took home the bronze medal, highlighting the diversity of participants in the competition.

Overall, the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of all animals while promoting adoption and giving loving homes to pets in need. Wild Thang and his fellow contestants serve as shining examples of how rescue animals can provide joy and companionship to their owners.
