The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for a shift away from fragmented approaches to health and towards comprehensive and integrated policies and practices. This change is crucial in addressing the growing challenges faced by urban environments, which are becoming increasingly complex. To help decision-makers navigate this transition, WHO has recently published a series of policy briefs that focus on key themes such as evidence generation, governance, financing, innovation, partnerships, and participation.
These policy briefs serve as a roadmap for strategically addressing urban health issues and setting the stage for effective implementation. A webinar will be held on June 18th, 2024, from 1:30-2:45 pm CEST to introduce and discuss the new series. Speakers from various domains, including WHO experts, academic researchers, and policymakers, will explore the value of strategic approaches to urban health and discuss ways to scale up best practices.
The event will also include a call for case studies that highlight successful strategic actions in urban health at the city or national level. Speakers at the webinar will include Nathalie Roebbel and José Siri from WHO’s Urban Health Unit, Emmanuel Frimpong Boamah from the University of Buffalo, Graham Alabaster from UN-Habitat Geneva Office, a representative from United Cities and Local Governments, Renske Verstege from the City of Utrecht
